Species: Human
History: Boom.
Personality:
Cassandra is a pragmatist and prefers to act rather than to think. That preference comes across as more aggressive, however, because she's also a fairly angry, hot-blooded individual who has a tendency to be blunt and to the point in all matters. However, that is generally an over-simplification of who she is as her choices in life are guided both by her faith and by her heart. And sometimes her choices do not come to her as easily as they might seem due to her own insecurities.
It just takes some time to see those gentler parts to her as Cassandra is someone who is slow to warm up to others. What people tend to notice right away about Cassandra is that she is a brash individual. Cassandra has very little patience for things such as The Game in Orlais. Aside from a general distaste for politics, she prefers more direct approaches and for the matters of life and death to be treated with the seriousness she feels they deserve. As such, Cassandra also has a very commanding presence despite not being one to automatically assume leadership at every opportunity. She always carries herself with a great deal of conviction and refuses to show any signs of weakness. Essentially, Cassandra has a very hard shell to keep herself safe and to continue pressing forward beyond whatever obstacles decide to place themselves in her way.
The other part of Cassandra that makes her such a force to be reckoned with is her anger. Throughout her life, Cassandra has held onto a great deal of anger. She was first angry with upbringing, wanting no part of what being born to a noble Nevarran family had to offer her. She was then angry over the death of her brother, Anthony, who died after refusing to provide mages with the blood of a dragon. He was murdered in front of her, and so for quite a long time Cassandra held a fear and hatred of mages and anything to do with magic. She's used that anger to fuel and motivate herself, making her into a skilled and fierce warrior. But while her anger is certainly an asset, it can also be a blinding detriment. That aforementioned pragmatism and brashness kicks into overdrive when Cassandra is angry. Whatever thought she might have been considering is immediately thrown out the window as she obstinately moves forward. Had she not been able to finally move past her anger towards and hatred of mages, it's questionable that she would have been able to save the Divine when she was still quite young. Fortunately, however, she managed to take important steps in moving past her anger after working together with a young mage named Regalyan.
Despite Cassandra's forceful nature and decision-making capabilities, she is not one to lead. Part of this is due to her awareness that she is perhaps too quick to decide things, but it also comes from Cassandra's doubts about herself. For much of her life, Cassandra's faith has been her guide in determining what path to take. However, with the turmoil that's fractured the various fractions of the Chantry, relying so heavily faith and duty has been more difficult for Cassandra and had her at more of a loss than she's quite possibly ever known. For example, Cassandra openly admits to the Inquisitor that she has concerns about whether or not she's made the right decision in defying the Chantry and organizing the Inquisition. She later questions whether or not the Seekers are worth saving and rebuilding after certain truths come to light. As time goes on, however, Cassandra understands now that she is finally seeing things with open eyes. Her faith once more is her safe harbor, but with the understanding and acknowledgement that things cannot be as they were and need to change.
The other gentler part of Cassandra is her compassion. Beneath that tough exterior, Cassandra is someone who cares deeply about others. She believes in protecting and aiding the innocent. Cassandra believes it is both her duty and moral obligation to protect and serve the people of Thedas. Even if she somewhat questioned whether or not she made the right choice in defying the Chantry, something had to be done about Corypheus. Changes had to be made in a world after Corypheus for the peoples' suffering to be alleviated. Cassandra is also a fiercely loyal friend, noticing and believing in the strengths of those closest to her such as her belief that Cullen could overcome his addiction to lyrium. And yet, it is also somewhat baffling to her that she has been able to make such strong friendships. While she has known camaraderie in the Seekers, the friendships and bonds she has forged in the Inquisition are things she thought impossible, much like love and passion.
On the whole, Cassandra is a warrior. She is bound by both her faith and duty to serve and protect both those she does not know, and those she values as friends. She can be somewhat prickly, but she always means well for others. While she can step up and take charge, making decisions that others do not necessarily want to make, she has somewhat of a preference to follow and serve alongside rather than fully lead. This is because Cassandra does sometimes hold doubts about her capabilities and acknowledges her tendency to act on anger or just in a generally jump quickly to (threats of) violence. But beneath the fire and grit is a gentler person who would, without second thought, give her life if it meant the betterment of all people of Thedas. She is likewise someone who is not quite as familiar with emotional intimacy due to her belief that her duties are incompatible with such relationships, but craves and still managed to find a few of them all the same.
Abilities: As a Seeker, Cassandra is immune to possession and mind control. She also has the ability to manipulate lyrium in mages and Templars for means of interrogation. Otherwise, she's very good at hitting and killing things.
Augment Skillset: Security.
